Director of Music - Kyle Davies

Kyle Davies received his Masters of Music degree in Piano Performance at Syracuse University. During his time at Syracuse, he served as both an affiliate artist and graduate teaching assistant. Kyle attained his Bachelor of Music degree from Susquehanna University in 2006 where he earned the Herb-Deibler piano award and the Mary G. Steele piano scholarship.

Kyle possesses extensive experience in solo and collaborative performing and has concertized in several states. In 2004 Davies briefly studied and performed at the Mozarteum Conservatory in Salzburg, Austria. The following summer, Kyle attended the Brevard Summer Music Festival held in North Carolina. More recently he performed in China in 2007 with the PA Academy of the Arts, based in Lancaster, PA. That same year Kyle earned 3rd place in the Cape Vincent International Piano Competition in New York.

Kyle spent his past few years in Chicago where he taught, concertized, directed musicals and acted as organist/pianist of Lake Bluff United Methodist Church. Currently he teaches piano lessons and is thrilled to be serving as Director of Music at St. John’s UCC in Bellefonte.

Instruments

St. John's is fortunate to have both a pipe organ and piano for worship accompaniment.  While the piano is most often used to accompany the choir, the organ is regularly played for hymns and service music.  The organ of St. John’s United Church of Christ was built by the Tellers Organ Company of Erie, Pa., and installed in 1971.  While essentially a new instrument, some pipes from the church’s 1950 Möller organ were retained.  There are 17 ranks in three divisions.  The valves are electro-pneumatically operated from a two-manual, full-pedal board console and the approximately 1300 pipes fill the sanctuary with clear, bright and pleasing tones.
